JETTE HYE JIN MORTENSEN: MY GREAT GRANDFATHER. 2007, 7:25
In this mockumentary, the artist places herself as interviewee in a piece about her great grandfather, the Danish composer, Carl Nielsen. Presented in split screen, we see the artist alongside archival images of Nielsen and his family. Talking with sincerity and at times great tenderness, Mortensen’s Asian features leave the audience puzzled as to the authenticity of the piece. Through the writing in of a the Danish person of minority into the cultural and national history, she indirectly questions concepts of family and heritage.
