Oasis depicts a condition rather than an event. A roadside diner in a small village in Sweden provides the scene. A few signs in the generic surroundings give a Scandinavian suggestion, but the diner itself references a familiar American stereotype. This culturally incongruous scene is enhanced by the overlaying of Sean Paul’s dancehall soundtrack, highlighting the mix of cultural references that penetrate our everyday surroundings, making connections between things we perceive but usually ignore.
